ENTERTAINMENT NEWS: 'Shell Shock' opera brings trauma of World War One to stage

By Robert-Jan Bartunek

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Belgian composer Nicholas Lens and Australian rocker Nick Cave have joined forces to create an opera marking the centenary of World War One, depicting the horrors of the conflict through the eyes of soldiers, deserters, a nurse and an orphan.

"Shell Shock" debuted at La Monnaie opera house in Brussels on Friday, with eight further performances in the coming days, all but one of them sold out.

It depicts neither great battles nor heroism - instead it focuses on the traumatic effects war has on individuals.

Cave's libretto is organized into 12 songs, or cantos, each focusing on one participant in the war. It is also littered with expletives.

Best known for his time as lead singer of alternative rock band Bad Seeds, Cave said he struggled with the subject matter and the problem of expressing the feelings of soldiers at war.

"What do I know about killing a man or seeing a friend die," Cave wrote in the program notes. "At the end it was a battle between me, the keyboard and my imagination."

At the opera's start, the auditorium is plunged into darkness only to be awakened by the wailing of the choir as the curtain pulls up and a war cemetery appears under faint light.

The individual scenes are interspersed by modern dance routines by Belgian company Eastman, the dancers at times joining to form a heroic statue and at other times convulsing on the floor of an infirmary.

Lens's music is not always melodic but uses the orchestra to paint the scenes, such as light wind instruments accompanying the lamentation of an abandoned orphan in the final scene.

It takes a surreal turn in the dramatic canto of the Angels of Death with high-pitched voices shrieking "I am the angel of death, I catch breath", followed by repeated expletives.

The deserter's canto begins: "My mother's in the laundry crying from the shame. My father would have preferred I took a bullet in the brain."

Perhaps most striking words are those of a survivor, who, back with his family, cannot shake the horrifying memories of battle.

"Sometimes I think my wife wished I'd died," he sings.

Belgium was the scene of some of the heaviest battles between the Germans and British, French and allied forces entrenched in the west of the country and northern France.

Some 65 million soldiers mobilized between 1914 and 1918, of whom about 9 million were killed and 20 million wounded on both sides on all fronts. Civilian deaths are estimated at about 7 million.

ENTERTAINMENT NEWS: From 'Bates Motel' to 'Ouija,' Olivia Cooke finds breakout in horror

By Piya Sinha-Roy

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Sitting in a palm-tree lined cemetery in Hollywood promoting her latest film, "Bates Motel" actress Olivia Cooke says the impact of working in the horror genre has left her emotions on edge.

"Recently I did a scene on 'Bates' where I just cried, and the director was able to tap into something where my emotions just came flooding out," the British actress said in her native Manchester accent.

"My emotions are very readily available, which is weird. I've never had that, but that means I can cry at anything now. I'll cry at toilet paper."

Cooke, 20, may be best known for her role as Emma, a teen cystic fibrosis sufferer in A&E television's hit horror drama "Bates Motel," but she's capping off 2014 with her third horror movie, "Ouija," in theaters on Friday, just ahead of Halloween festivities on Oct. 31.

Cooke plays teenager Laine, who decides to seek answers from the spirit world with the help of an Ouija board after her best friend dies mysteriously, but Laine summons up something far more sinister in the process.

"Ouija," co-produced and distributed by Comcast Corp's Universal Pictures, was made for $5 million, according to IMDB.com. It is also produced by Hasbro Inc, the makers of the Ouija board game.

The film is expected to top the U.S. box office this weekend with $28 million, according to Boxoffice.com.

The film follows Cooke's roles in "The Quiet Ones," where she played a disturbed young woman haunted by a demon, and sci-fi horror "The Signal," where a group of friends are abducted on a road trip.

"It's just really strong female characters that I'm drawn to, it doesn't really matter what the genre is," Cooke said.

"I don't think I have taken horror to rise up the ranks of Hollywood, but I know people do - when I think of girls trying to rise up the ranks with horror, I always think of the hot naked girl that gets slashed first."

As Emma on "Bates Motel," Cooke said she has managed to showcase her acting range in the gritty drama that serves as a prequel inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho."

"It's quite psychological," she said. "I just get to challenge myself and stretch my emotions. Emma, she's not necessarily a psychotic or evil character, she's very light."

For her next role, Cooke found herself moving away from horror to explore a more intimate story, playing a cancer patient in the coming-of-age film "Me & Earl & the Dying Girl."

The actress said she found herself facing an unexpected challenge after shaving off her long auburn locks for the role.

"Ever since I've cut my hair, it's harder going into auditions. It's really bizarre, and I didn't realize how much it relied on the way I looked," she said.

"But I realized that it's more about looks, and that's quite a hard thing to deal with."

ENTERTAINMENT NEWS: Saturday Night Live interns settle NBCUniversal wage lawsuit

By Jonathan Stempel

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Thousands of former interns at NBCUniversal, including on the late-night TV show "Saturday Night Live," have reached a $6.4 million settlement of a class-action lawsuit claiming they should have been paid for their work.

The settlement resolves claims that NBCUniversal, a unit of Comcast Corp, violated the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and state laws in New York, California and Connecticut by classifying the plaintiffs improperly as "non-employee interns," exempt from applicable wage and hour requirements.

Court approval is required for the settlement, which was filed Wednesday night in the U.S. District Court in Manhattan. The average payout would be about $505, court papers show.

"It was probably a good idea for NBCUniversal to settle," said Marcia McCormick, an employment law professor at Saint Louis University School of Law. "NBCUniversal ran the risk that its decision not to pay interns might be viewed by a court as willful, which could result in much higher damages."

NBCUniversal denied wrongdoing in agreeing to settle. A spokeswoman, Lauren Skowronski, declined to comment.

Justin Swartz, a partner at Outten & Golden representing the plaintiffs, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The July 2013 lawsuit is one of dozens filed in the United States challenging private companies' longstanding practices of paying interns nothing, or less than minimum wage.

Many were filed after U.S. District Judge William Pauley's groundbreaking June 2013 decision that Twenty-First Century Fox Inc's Fox Searchlight Pictures should have paid two interns, also represented by Outten & Golden, who worked on the 2010 movie "Black Swan."

Relying heavily on U.S. Department of Labor guidelines for internships, the Manhattan judge said interns often supplant paid employees, and typically deserve to be paid in part because employers are the "primary beneficiaries" of their work.

This is true, he said, even if interns get benefits such as on-the-job experience, and the chance to build their resumes and obtain references.

Among the other companies sued by interns are the publishing houses Conde Nast and Hearst, and Warner Music Group.

Conde Nast ended its internship program last October, and according to court papers "finalized" the main settlement agreement about two weeks ago.

"The decision in the Fox Searchlight case really did change the landscape," said David Yamada, an employment law professor at Suffolk University Law School in Boston.

NBCUniversal's settlement "suggests that employers and their lawyers are concluding that many unpaid internships in the private sector would violate minimum wage laws," Yamada added. "A settlement of this size indicates that this employer saw the handwriting on the wall."

Outten & Golden is seeking $1.18 million in legal fees, plus costs and expenses, in the NBCUniversal case.

The case is Eliastam et al v. NBCUniversal Media LLC, U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York, No. 13-04634.

ENTERTAINMENT NEWS: Matthew McConaughey enjoying his 'Interstellar' career heights

By Karen Brooks

KILLEEN Texas (Reuters) - Matthew McConaughey's upcoming film about a journey beyond the stars may as well be about the Texas actor's own stratospheric career these days.

From winning his best actor Oscar in March for "Dallas Buyers Club" to his lead role in the highly anticipated space-exploration drama "Interstellar," set to become one of the year's biggest movies, McConaughey has rocketed to a level of stardom unlike anything he said he has ever experienced before.

And he loves it, the actor told Reuters.

"I'm enjoying my career now more than ever," he said during a preview screening for military families at Fort Hood Army base, a few hours away from his ranch in Central Texas.

McConaughey, 44, takes the lead in "Interstellar," out in theaters on Nov. 7, the latest film by "Dark Knight" director Christopher Nolan that McConaughey called "as enormous as anything that's been put on the screen."

"It's got questions that we can talk about until the end of time," he said.

McConaughey plays Cooper, a widowed father and former pilot grounded by his own circumstances, the defunding of space exploration, and other grim developments leading to Earth's fast-approaching demise.

Then Cooper is called upon to head deep into outer space to find a new galaxy for humanity to call home, but he faces leaving his family to pursue mankind's salvation.

"And there's no return ticket," McConaughey says. "That's a hell of a question. That's as hard as it can get."

Cooper's everyman status puts him in contrast to McConaughey's recent collection of antiheroes living on the fringe in movies like "Mud" and HBO's crime drama series "True Detective." Playing homophobic AIDS sufferer Ron Woodroof in "Dallas Buyers Club" earned the actor a Golden Globe and Screen Actor's Guild award.

Once pigeonholed into playing goofy hotshot characters in action movies and romantic comedies, McConaughey's turn towards grittier dramatic roles has been dubbed the McConaissance, a change that he attributes to being more settled and mature in his personal life.

"The target draws the arrow," he said, wearing a trucker hat he designed that reads "Alright" and "just keep living," a nod to his now-iconic Oscar speech. "I think I'm drawing things that are right for me right now."

McConaughey is being drawn back to his lighter roots, saying he is currently conceptualizing his own comedy. The actor betrays nothing else but a sly grin about the "comedy up my sleeve."

The actor said his most exciting and challenging role is being a father to his three young children with his Brazilian model wife, Camila Alves.

"It's a brand new movie every day," he added with a laugh.

His decision to star in "Interstellar" was inspired by his oldest, 6-year-old Levi, who wants to invent a spacesuit that will let him walk on the sun.

"I'm really turned on with what I'm doing day to day, in work and personally," he said. "I'm happy to be able to say that. It's not guaranteed, for sure."

ENTERTAINMENT NEWS: Elton John joins with U.S. agencies on new AIDS program

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - British singer and activist Elton John said on Friday a new $7 million partnership between his foundation and U.S. government agencies will help create an AIDS-free society but urged more work to reach that goal.

John met with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry at the State Department where they announced the joint project to help expand access to HIV services for gays and transgender individuals in Africa.

The new program called Health4Men will involve PEPFAR, the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and initially focus on South Africa.

John said it was "a dream come true" to combine the efforts of his foundation with U.S. government initiatives.

"We should be living in an AIDS-free world, and that people, no matter who they love, who they are, should have a right to be AIDS-free," said John, who is one of Britain's most prominent musicians and gay celebrities.

"I think we will do great work, and we have a lot more work to do, but this is a good start," he added.

Kerry thanked John for his leadership and commended his foundation for "bringing hope and help to a lot of people."

CELEBRITY NEWS: Having A Tattoo Makes Me Feel Like The Devil’s Child- Singer, Ego

Lagbaja's former singing partner, Ego has said even though she loves tattoos and wanted to get it at a time, she's glad she didn't because it makes her feel she is the
devil's child. Here's are reasons for not having tattoos.

She told Punch;

My first reason borders on religion. There is a part of the Bible that is against writing anything on your body. I feel if I do it, I am the devil's child. At a time I wanted to get it, I went to the tattoo parlour but for a weird reason, it did not happen. It was like a phase and after a while, I got over it. I actually wanted to choose between tattoo and my dreadlocks; I could not have them both.

TOP NEWS Medical worker quarantined in New Jersey under new Ebola safeguards

By Ellen Wulfhorst

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A medical worker quarantined in New Jersey on her return from treating Ebola victims in West Africa was being evaluated in a hospital isolation ward on Saturday after new contagion-control safeguards were imposed for America's biggest urban center.

She was the first to be quarantined under a policy imposed on Friday by the states of New York and New Jersey requiring all health workers coming from Ebola-stricken West African countries to be automatically confined for monitoring during the 21-day incubation period of the virus.

The worker, who has not been publicly identified, showed no symptoms when she arrived at Newark Liberty International Airport on Friday but developed a fever after being admitted to University Hospital in Newark, the state health department said.

Fever can be an early sign of the disease, which is spread through direct contact with bodily fluids from an infected person who is exhibiting symptoms. No other details about her background or condition were given, but a department statement said she was "in isolation and being evaluated".

New York and New Jersey officials acted to begin mandatory isolation of medical personnel arriving from Ebola zones after Craig Spencer, a doctor who treated patients in Guinea for a month, came back to New York City infected.

The new measures apply to two airports serving the greater New York City metropolitan area - John F. Kennedy International in New York and Newark Liberty in New Jersey. They are among five airports through which the federal government has recently ordered all U.S.-bound travelers from Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea funneled for special Ebola screening.

The worst Ebola outbreak on record has killed at least 4,800 people since March, mostly in those three West African nations, and perhaps as many as 15,000, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Only four Ebola patients have been diagnosed so far in the United States: Liberian Thomas Eric Duncan, who died on Oct. 8 at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, two nurses who treated him there; and Spencer, the first New York City case.

President Barack Obama has so far resisted calls by some politicians to institute a U.S. ban on travel to and from West Africa.

But expanding mandatory quarantines to healthcare workers arriving through all five designated U.S. airports is an option under consideration by the administration, Tom Skinner, a spokesman for the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), told Reuters.

NEW YORK CITY CASE PROMPTS TOUGHER ACTION

The two-state quarantine policy was instituted a day after Spencer, a physician for the humanitarian group Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders), tested positive for Ebola and was admitted to a special isolation unit at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan.

City health officials have said Spencer, 33, did not begin to show symptoms until Thursday morning, the day of his hospitalization, and was thus not contagious before then.

However, public fears about transmission of the disease were stoked by the disclosure that he had ridden subways, taken a taxi and visited a bowling alley in the days before he fell ill.

Three people who had close contact with Spencer since his return to New York, including his fiancée, were quarantined as well, but they were reported still healthy on Friday. Medical detectives, meanwhile, tried to retrace Spencer's steps in the city in search of others who might have been exposed.

After first seeking to allay concerns that Spencer put others at risk by venturing out in public before becoming sick, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said Friday that common sense demanded a more cautious approach.

He was joined by Governor Chris Christie of neighboring New Jersey, marking a bipartisan teaming of two prominent political figures to take steps going beyond national restrictions being imposed by the Obama administration.

Cuomo is seen as a rising star in the Democratic Party led by Obama, and Christie, a Republican, is widely discussed as a potential 2016 contender for the White House.

In Washington, Obama also sought to reassure a worried public with an Oval Office hug of Dallas nurse Nina Pham, who was declared Ebola-free on Friday after catching the virus from Duncan.

Emory University Hospital in Atlanta and the CDC also confirmed that the second nurse, Amber Vinson, no longer had detectable levels of virus but did not set a date for her to leave that facility.

Spencer's case brought to nine the total number of people treated for Ebola in U.S. hospitals since August. Just two, Pham and Vinson, contracted the virus in the United States.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest declined to discuss the possibility of a nationwide quarantine policy but said "these kinds of policy decisions are going to be driven by science" and the advice of medical experts.

A senior administration official said it was important for the United States to take "coordinated" action on the issue, noting federal officials had met as recently as Friday morning, but have not yet made a decision.

The prospect of expanding quarantines also raised questions about balancing the needs for safeguarding public health with protecting civil liberties, legal experts said.

"It's a severe restriction that the use of which should be very much guarded, that people should have a right to an attorney and some type of due process," said attorney Joel Kupferman, executive director of the New York Environmental Law and Justice Project. "When they quarantine someone, they should make sure that they are not treated as a criminal."

TOP NEWS Police seek motive in fatal Washington state school shooting

By Eric M. Johnson and Victoria Cavaliere

MARYSVILLE Wash. (Reuters) - Authorities were seeking a motive on Saturday as to why a high school student in the United States' Washington state shot dead a female classmate and wounded four others in a campus cafeteria before killing himself.

The shooter, a homecoming prince at Marysville-Pilchuck High School north of Seattle, took his own life as his classmates fled to safety.

The incident was the latest in a series of deadly shooting rampages at U.S. schools that have played a central role in a national debate over gun laws.

A school district official, who declined to be named, identified the shooter as Jaylen Fryberg, a freshman described by classmates and parents as a popular member of both the wrestling and football teams.

"He came up from behind and had a gun in his hand and he fired about eight bullets...They were his friends so it wasn't just random," student Jordan Luton told CNN.

"Then he turned and looked at me and my girlfriend...and kind of gave us a smirk and turned around and then shot more bullets outside," Luton said.

All of the victims of the shooting were under 18, and three were in critical condition with gunshot wounds to the head, said Joanne Roberts, chief of medicine at Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett. The fourth wounded victim suffered less serious injuries.

Two of the wounded were boys and two were girls, hospital officials said. The boys, 15-year-old Andrew Fryberg, shot in the head, and 14-year-old Nate Hatch, shot in the jaw, were both in intensive care at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle on Friday night, a spokeswoman said.

Local media reported the boys were cousins of the shooter.

Police would not confirm the gunman's identity or discuss possible motives for the shooting, citing the ongoing investigation.

But a school official and several witnesses said he had been involved in a fight with another student. And a friend of one of the victims said he had been recently rejected by a female classmate.

SEARCH FOR A MOTIVE

At Marysville's The Grove Church, hundreds of parents, students and community members packed the aisles during a vigil on Friday evening, holding flowers and crying throughout a prayer service.

Outside the vigil, 9th grader Bella Panjeli said she attended a different school but was friends with one of the female victims, calling her "a beautiful girl and so, so sweet."

She also said Fryberg was in an ongoing dispute with his cousin over the victim's affections.

"I heard he asked her out and she rebuffed him and was with his cousin," Panjeli said, adding that she learned of the connection after talking to the victim's family and friends. "It was a fight over a girl."

Two parents of students at the school said an altercation broke out on an athletic field following football practice in recent days, adding that one boy involved was among those shot.

Students who knew Fryberg described him as outgoing and unlike the loner personality that is often associated with school shootings.

There were no indications on his social media accounts that he had been planning such a rampage, but on Tuesday he posted his feelings of despondency, apparently over a romantic split, on Twitter.

"It breaks me...It actually does...I know it seems like I'm sweating it off... But I'm not.. And I never will be able to," he wrote.

Police would not say what kind of weapon Fryberg had used, but an Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives official told reporters the gun had been legally acquired. U.S. media reported the weapon was a .40-caliber Beretta handgun.

In 2012, a 20-year-old gunman entered Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, and killed 20 children and six adults before taking his own life in one of the deadliest mass shootings in U.S. history.

TOP NEWS Virginia remains identified as those of missing college student

By Ian Simpson

(Reuters) - Human remains found in Virginia were identified on Friday as those of missing university student Hannah Graham, and prosecutors are focusing on more charges against the suspect in her disappearance, authorities said.

Graham, a University of Virginia sophomore, was last seen on Sept. 13 in Charlottesville, site of the university. Searchers discovered the remains on Oct. 18 on abandoned property near the town, and Jesse Matthew Jr., 32, of Charlottesville, has been charged in her disappearance.

The disappearance shook the college town in central Virginia and drew national attention, especially after Matthew, the last person seen with Graham, was linked to sexual assaults and the disappearance of another woman.

The Medical Examiner's Office in Richmond "has confirmed that these are the remains of Hannah Graham, 18, of Fairfax, Va.," the Albemarle County Police Department said in a statement.

Police called for the cooperation of the public as they investigated Graham's death. Matthew was arrested in Texas last month and is jailed in Charlottesville on a charge of abduction with intent to defile.

In a statement, the Albemarle County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office said the focus of the investigation now was to determine what charges will be brought and when to make them.

The teenager's parents, John and Sue Graham, said in a statement that they were "devastated by the loss of our beautiful daughter, Hannah."

They thanked police, emergency workers and hundreds of volunteers who searched until the remains were found. Other families in Virginia and elsewhere were still waiting for missing loved ones to be discovered, they said.

"Please continue to hold these families in your thoughts and prayers," they said.

Matthew, a hospital worker, was charged this week with attempted murder, abduction and sexual assault in a 2005 attack in Fairfax, near Washington. A Fairfax County judge signed a bench warrant on Thursday ordering him to appear on the charges.

Police have said forensic evidence links Matthew to Morgan Harrington, a Virginia Tech student who disappeared after leaving a Charlottesville concert in October 2009. Her body was discovered in 2010.

Matthew was also the main suspect in a 2002 campus rape investigation while attending Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. No charges were filed.

He attended Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia, in 2003. A football player, Matthew left the team shortly after a report of an on-campus sexual assault, the university has said.

TOP NEWS Two deputies killed, two others hurt in California shooting spree

SACRAMENTO Calif. (Reuters) - Two California sheriff's deputies were killed and two others were wounded in a shooting spree that started in a motel parking lot in Sacramento on Friday, authorities said.

Marcelo Marquez, 34, and a female companion, who were described on Twitter by the California Highway Patrol as armed and dangerous, were taken into custody, police said.

The incident began on Friday morning in the parking lot of a Motel 6 when a deputy, later identified as Danny Oliver, 47, approached a vehicle considered to be suspicious, said Sacramento County Sheriff Lieutenant R.L. Davis.

Someone inside the car fired multiple rounds at Oliver, who was struck in the chest. On Friday afternoon, Sacramento Sheriff Scott Jones said that Oliver had died of his wounds at the University of California, Davis, Medical Center in Sacramento.

"We grieve as a family," Jones told a news conference. He said that Oliver, a 15-year veteran of the force, left behind a wife and two daughters.

After shooting Oliver, the car's occupants then carjacked a vehicle nearby, shooting the man who was at the wheel before fleeing, Davis said. Police initially said that the civilian who was carjacked was a woman.

They then stole a third vehicle, a 2002 red Ford F-150 pickup truck, and are believed to have crossed into neighboring Placer County, shooting two sheriff's deputies there, Davis said.

One of the deputies, 42-year-old Michael David Davis Jr., later died, said Placer County Sheriff Edward Bonner at a news conference.

Davis was a 15-year veteran with the department and died 26 years to the day after his father and namesake, Michael David Davis, was killed while on duty as a sheriff's deputy in southern California, Bonner said.

The female suspect was taken into custody earlier on Friday afternoon, the Sacramento Bee reported. The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department confirmed that she was "with law enforcement," but said it was not clear whether she was still viewed as a suspect.

Marquez was taken into custody around 4 p.m. local time after he was found hiding in a suburban home, the Placer County Sheriff's Department said. Businesses in the town of Auburn, where the man fled, were put on lockdown for much of Friday afternoon.

CELEBRITY NEWS: Interesting! OAP Osam reviews P-Square's new album

If you loved or didn't like P-Square's new album Double Trouble, then you need to read this review by popular OAP and comedian, Osam. Find below...
The accepted norm to know a singer or an artiste's worth is the reeling out of an LP or an album. In Nigeria today, there is more concentration from artistes in spewing out single after single in the silent bid that one just might be the hit they have been craving for.
P-Square is a group that defies logic in this game of from single to album. There is this midas touch from these boys that just keeps everybody in awe.

Hate 'em, Love 'em, they are one of the very few professionals left in this dispensation.
As an OAP, I play back to back hit songs for 6hours Monday to Friday, and I now want to take a critical look at albums that have come out recently so as to know why the craze for singles short of albums which is every artiste's nightmare.

This is a review of Psquare's 6TH album DOUBLE TROUBLE.

Track 1: SHEKINI
An 'African Jungle Beat' as I term it, popularised the likes of Davido's 'AYE/SKELEWU',Runtown's 'GALLARDO' etc. It's a beat with a waist winding push and prompts to mind the wave of the SHOKI/SKELEWU/SEKEM dance. The joker about this track is that the Igbo boys that isPsquare actually sang the hook in impeccable Yoruba. Attention grabbing track for an album opener.

Track 2: MISSING YOU
A nice highlife track. I believe Sunny Neji is one ingredient missing from this track. It has its upbeat swing that brings in the vintage Psquare flavour. Guys, make sure you are not missing your lady when listening to this track.

Track 3: BRING IT ONft DAVE SCOTT
A personal favourite. An initial 20 second listen of this track from the start would leave you guessing if it's a foreign track. Featuring Dave Scott,  a hitherto unknown American singer from Texas. Listening to this mid tempo pop track with its undulating beat, apart from its message of hope, voice artistry comes into play here. The harmony of Dave's voice and that of Psquare is absolutely timed and mind blowing. Rudeboy himself solely produced this one, and that would be Paul Okoye!

Track 4: MMS(Mugu Money Spender)
You just have to give it to the power of the African Jungle Beat yet again. It seems as if Psquare are being penitent from the carefree 'CHOP MY MONEY' frenzy and are now wise with the way money is to be spent. LOL.Hardcorebassline accompanies this yet  another dance track to the wave of Skelewu/Shoki/Sekem dance step.

Track 5: IFEOMA
If you know Psquare, this is another vintage track with a pleading message of love assisted with a mix of highlife and uptempo reggae. The bassline too just grabs my attention. Guys, this is another song you could use to win your sweethearts back. But please tell her that when she hears IFEOMA being called out in the song she should replace it with her own name in her head o!

Track 6:  EJEAJO ft TI
Now this is a track with a Yoruba phrase 'EJEAJO' which means 'Let's dance' .Psquare takes us back to the swinging 80's soul train era with this intense pop tune. Personally, I believe Jermaine Jackson would have fit into this track because the American rapper T.I rap comes up short. It's a nice experiment  and would hit the reminiscing over 35's. Good back up video though.

Track 7: COLLABO ft DON JAZZY
Funnily enough Don Jazzy didn't produce this track. Another African Jungle Beat with good vibes from the collabo of Psquare and Don Jazzy, produced by Oscar. Chicks love this jam. Beware if a chick sings it to you!

Track 8: OGADIGIDE
I was expecting to hear Flavour's input in this track because this is just down his alley. Inspiring track in igbo chorus whose title means ' It will last forever'. A fine blend of highlife and African Jungle Beat.

Track 9: NO BE JOKE
Rhythm and Blues slow tempo with a good bassline, aligning drumbeats and a blend of the Pqsuare trademark voice.

Track 10: ENEMY SOLOft AWILO LONGOMBA
No doubt this song is geared at haters and probably was structured to make them dance when they hear it hence the makossabeat . The track's authenticity is heightened with the inclusion of the Makossa maestro AWILO LOGOMBA who did justice with his own rendition in his Congolese dialect from the start of the song. On point for makossa lovers,

Track 11: SARI SARI
Another up tempo highlife song depicting love to a girl. This dance tracks shows the dexterity of Psquare being able switch from pidgin to igbo then English with a smooth flow. Love the guitar solos though.

Track 12: ZOMBIE ft Jermaine Jackson

Okay, this is where I have a little bit of bother. Is it the Michael Jackson-like wail his brother Jermaine added throughout this track? Or is it that the track is a stylish mix of Afrobeat and pop? Or is it that it sounds like an experimental sound? I think this is the track T.I should have featured in to add that rap feel. This song was produced solely by Mr P and that would be Peter Okoye!

Track 13: IJE LOVE
This is the track you would dedicate to that special woman in your life. I can see this track being played at wedding reception because of its up tempo nature and infusion of highlife
BONUS TRACKS THAT INITAILLY CAME OUT AS SINGLES:
TESTIMONY- In which some  market men and women use in opening their shops in Lagos,
PERSONALLY- The video made Jermaine interested in Psquare
ALINGO- A song with a dance to it.

*MY RATINGS: Good effort!*
I  am going to be reviewing some albums that came out recently next  and I am going to call a spade a spade!
So if you want an album reviewed, which would you like?

OSAM.

JAPAN NEWS Japan's METI minister visits PM after reports minister to resign soon

TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan's trade and industry minister, Yuko Obuchi, entered Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's office on Monday after media reports that her resignation was imminent over allegations of funds misuse by her political support groups.

The resignation of Obuchi less than two months after her appointment to the post would be a blow to Abe, who took office in December 2012 promising to revive the economy.

Obuchi, 40, who has been seen as a possible future contender to be Japan's first female premier, was one of five women whom Abe tapped in a cabinet reshuffle in early September intended to bolster his popularity. The telegenic mother of two, Obuchi was given the tough task of explaining Abe's policy to restart offline nuclear reactors to a public wary about safety after the March 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster.

JAPAN NEWS: Japan PM may replace justice minister as well as METI minister: Kyodo

TOKYO (Reuters) - Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is considering replacing Justice Minister Midori Matsushima over allegations of political funds misuse, as well as trade and industry minister Yuko Obuchi, who is expected to step down on Monday after reports her political groups misspent funds, Kyodo news agency said.

The two resignations would be a double blow to Abe as he confronts tough policy decisions including whether to raise the unpopular national sales tax to 10 percent from October 2015.

The opposition Democratic Party on Friday filed a criminal complaint against Matsushima, accusing her of violating the election law by distributing paper fans to voters. The party has demanded that she resign. Defence Minister Akinori Eto has faced questions from the opposition over his political funds.

JAPAN NEWS: Japan METI minister expected to resign in blow to PM Abe: media

By Linda Sieg

TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan's new trade and industry minister was expected to resign on Monday, domestic media said, over allegations that her support groups misused political funds, dealing a blow to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe as he faces tough policy decisions including whether to raise an already unpopular sales tax.

Yuko Obuchi, 40, the daughter of a prime minister and tipped as a future contender to become Japan's first female premier, was one of five women appointed by Abe in a cabinet reshuffle less than two months ago. The appointments were intended to boost his popularity and show his commitment to promoting women as part of his "Abenomics" strategy to revive the economy.

As head of the powerful Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Obuchi, a telegenic mother of two, was tasked with selling Abe's unpopular plan to restart offline nuclear reactors to a public worried about safety after the March 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster.

NHK public TV said on Monday that Obuchi would unveil the results of an investigation into her groups' funds use on Monday and meet Abe to tell him her decision to resign. NHK said Abe would accept her resignation and start looking for a successor.

The departure would be the first cabinet resignation for Abe, who took office in December 2012 for a rare second term, promising to revive Japan's stalled economy and strengthen its security stance to cope with challenges such as a rising China.

Abe's first stint as prime minister in 2006-2007 was marred by scandals among his ministers - several quit and one committed suicide. Abe himself resigned after just one year in the face of parliamentary deadlock, sliding support rates and ill health.

His current government had been little touched by scandal until the cabinet rejig.

OPPOSITION TAKE AIM

The Obuchi affair comes as Abe must decide by year-end whether to proceed with a planned but unpopular hike in the sales tax to 10 percent, after a rise in April to 8 percent pushed the world's third-largest economy into its deepest quarterly slump since the 2009 global financial crisis.

Support for Abe has begun to sag, falling 6.8 percentage points to 48.1 percent in a weekend survey by Kyodo news agency from last month. Nearly two-thirds opposed a second tax hike and almost 85 percent said they didn't feel the economy had recovered.

Media reports of funding irregularities emerged on Thursday. On Saturday, NHK said two Obuchi political groups spent 43 million yen (400,000 U.S. dollars) on annual theater events between 2009 and 2011 and kept no record of spending on the 2012 event.

Another political funds group bought 3.8 million yen worth of goods from businesses run by her sister and brother-in-law over the four years through 2012, NHK said.

Obuchi told parliament she believed her supporters had paid for the theater events themselves but was aware it would be a legal violation if her political groups made more payments.

"I feel that ignorance is no excuse," she said on Friday.

Abe had hoped the soft-spoken Obuchi would be able to ease opposition to atomic power, but political analysts say the controversy could hamper Abe's plan to reboot reactors, opposed by more than 60 percent of voters in the Kyodo survey.

Abe's ruling coalition has a hefty parliamentary majority, the opposition is fragmented and no general election need be held until 2016, but the opposition Democratic Party has taken aim at new ministers in debates to try to dent Abe's popularity.

The Democrats on Friday filed a criminal complaint against Justice Minister Midori Matsushima, accusing her of violating the election law by distributing paper fans to voters. The party has demanded that she resign. Defence Minister Akinori Eto has faced questions from the opposition over his political funds.

EGYPT NEWS: Roadside bomb kills six soldiers in Egypt's Sinai

CAIRO (Reuters) - Six Egyptian soldiers were killed by a remotely-detonated roadside bomb in the Sinai Peninsula on Sunday, the army said in a statement.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, which also wounded five soldiers.

The bomb exploded as a patrol responsible for protecting a natural gas pipeline passed by, security sources said.

The blast occurred southwest of provincial capital Al-Arish, where two policemen were killed when their patrol car was struck by a rocket-propelled grenade three days ago.

Security forces face a jihadist insurgency that has killed hundreds of soldiers and policemen since the army toppled President Mohamed Mursi of the Muslim Brotherhood last year after mass protests against his rule.

Most attacks have been in the Sinai Peninsula, which borders Israel and the Gaza Strip.

Security officials say Sinai-based militants are inspired by Islamic State, the al Qaeda offshoot that controls parts of Iraq and Syria and wants to redraw the map of the Middle East.

A senior commander from Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis, Egypt's deadliest jihadist group, has told Reuters that Islamic State has advised it on how to operate more effectively.

TOP NEWS North and South Korea exchange gunfire at border in latest clash

SEOUL (Reuters) - North and South Korea exchanged gunfire on Sunday when the North's soldiers approached the military border and did not retreat after the South fired warning shots, the South Korean Defence Ministry said.

The North's soldiers fired back in an exchange of gunfire that lasted about 10 minutes but the situation did not escalate, a ministry official said.

"There were no casualties or property damage," the official said.

The incident was the latest in a series of confrontations in recent weeks between the rival Koreas, that remain technically at war, and follows an urgent meeting between senior military officials on Wednesday to discuss how to ease tensions.

The North's soldiers on Saturday approached the so-called Military Demarcation Line that separates the countries but retreated after the South fired warning shots, the official added.

Earlier this month, the two sides exchanged fire after a North Korean patrol boat crossed a sea border that the North has long disputed in an area where naval clashes have in the past killed scores of sailors on both sides. They also traded machinegun fire after southern activists released anti-Pyongyang propaganda leaflets across the border by balloon on Oct. 10.

The two Koreas are expected to hold a high-level meeting soon and the recent actions by the heavily militarized North are seen by experts as posturing to seek advantage in often intricate dealings with the wealthy South.

TOP NEWS Hong Kong crisis deepens after weekend clashes, talks set for Tuesday

By Donny Kwok and Farah Master

HONG KONG (Reuters) - A deepening sense of impasse gripped Hong Kong on Monday as pro-democracy protests entered their fourth week, with the government having limited options to end the crisis and demonstrators increasingly willing to confront police.

Dozens of people were injured in two nights of clashes over the weekend in the densely populated Mong Kok district of the Chinese-controlled city, including 22 police, media said. Four people were arrested on Sunday for assault, police said.

The area was calm on Monday although scores of protesters remained on the streets.

Hopes of easing the worst political crisis in Hong Kong since Britain handed the free-wheeling city back to China in 1997 rest on talks scheduled for Tuesday between the government and student protest leaders that will be broadcast live.

But few are expecting any resolution given the two sides are poles apart on how the city will elect its next leader in 2017.

"I don't expect much from tomorrow's meeting, but I still hold some hope for the talks," said Woody Wong, a 21-year-old student who camped overnight with protesters on Nathan Road, the main thoroughfare in Mong Kok.

"I will keep doing this until the government listens to our voice."

Students want free elections, but China insists on screening candidates first. Hong Kong's Beijing-backed leader, Leung Chun-ying, has said the city's government was unwilling to compromise on China's restrictions, which were announced in late August.

Leung, who has rejected calls by protesters to quit, said on Sunday that more time was needed to broker what he hoped would be a non-violent end to the upheaval.

"To work out a solution, to put an end to this problem, we need time. We need time to talk to the people, particularly young students," he told Hong Kong's ATV Television. "What I want is to see a peaceful and a meaningful end to this problem."

Hong Kong's 28,000-strong police force has been struggling to contain the youth-led movement.

Over the weekend, demonstrators in Mong Kok squared off against police in late-night confrontations, surging forward to stake their claim to an intersection.

Scores of riot police smashed batons at a wall of umbrellas that protesters raised to defend themselves. Scuffles erupted amid shouts and hurled insults.

On Sunday night, crowds again built up and protesters stockpiled safety equipment such as helmets. Some wore homemade forearm shields made out of foam pads to parry baton blows.

But unlike on the previous two nights, there were no clashes.

'CRIMINAL ACTS' ON COMPUTER

The protesters, led by a restive generation of students, have been demanding China's Communist Party rulers live up to constitutional promises to grant full democracy to the former British trading outpost.

Hong Kong is ruled under a "one country, two systems" formula that allows it wide-ranging autonomy and freedoms and specifies universal suffrage as an eventual goal. But Beijing is wary about copycat demands for reform on the mainland.

Leung appears hamstrung, unable to compromise because of the message that would send to people on the mainland while more force looks likely to only galvanize the protesters.

Hong Kong Security Chief Lai Tung-kwok said some clashes in recent days had been initiated by activists affiliated to "radical organizations which have been active in conspiring, planning and charging violent acts".

In addition to the four arrested for assault, police on Sunday announced the arrest of a man suspected of inciting others "on an online forum to join the unlawful assembly in Mong Kok, to charge at police and to paralyze the railways".

The arrest of the 23-year-old man for "access to (a) computer with criminal or dishonest intent" appeared to be the first of its kind since the demonstrations began.

Mobile phone chat groups and social media sites like Facebook have been major platforms for protest chatter, including calls for action by demonstration leaders.

"Police remind the public that the internet environment is not a lawless world," Hui Chun-tak, chief superintendent of the Police Public Relations Branch, told reporters, according to a transcript online.

Some pro-democracy politicians have demanded that the government stop using force, saying it could influence the Tuesday talks.

"Using the police to clear areas will only trigger more protests and conflict," lawmaker Alan Leong said late on Sunday.

Besides Mong Kok, about 1,000 protesters are camped out at the headquarters of the civil disobedience "Occupy" movement on Hong Kong Island in a sea of tents on an eight-lane highway beneath skyscrapers close to government headquarters.

Hong Kong came up in weekend talks between U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Chinese State Councillor Yang Jiechi in Boston.

A State Department official said it was discussed as part of candid exchanges on human rights. The Chinese Foreign Ministry said Yang told Kerry Hong Kong was an internal affair.

TOP NEWS Fiercest fighting in days hits Syrian border town

By Humeyra Pamuk

URFA Turkey (Reuters) - The fiercest fighting in days shook the Syrian border town of Kobani overnight as Islamic State fighters attacked Kurdish defenders with mortars and car bombs, sources in the town and a monitoring group said on Sunday.

Islamic State, which controls much of Syria and Iraq, fired 44 mortars at Kurdish parts of the town on Saturday and some of the shells fell inside nearby Turkey, according to the British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. It said four more mortars were fired on Sunday.

The month-long battle for Kobani has ebbed and flowed. A week ago, Kurds said the town would soon fall. The United States and its coalition partners then stepped up air strikes on Islamic State, which wants to take Kobani in order to strengthen its position in northern Syria.

The coalition has been bombing Islamic State targets in Iraq since August and extended the campaign to Syria in September after Islamic State, a group that espouses a rigid interpretation of Islam and initially fought Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's forces, made huge territorial gains.

Raids on Islamic State around Kobani have been stepped up, with the fate of the town seen as an important test for U.S. President Barack Obama's campaign against the Islamists.

NATO member Turkey, whose forces are ranged along the border overlooking Kobani, is reluctant to intervene. It insists the allies should also confront Assad to end Syria's civil war, which has killed close to 200,000 people since March 2011.

"We had the most intense clashes in days, perhaps a week, last night. (Islamic State) attacked from three different sides including the municipality building and the market place," said Abdulrahman Gok, a journalist in Kobani.

"Clashes did not stop until the morning. We have had an early morning walk inside the city and have seen lots of damaged cars on the streets and unexploded mortar shells," he said.

CAR BOMBS

The Observatory reported two Islamic State car bombs hit Kurdish positions on Saturday evening, leading to casualties. A cloud of black smoke towered over Kobani on Sunday.

A fighter from one of the female units of the main Syrian Kurdish militia in Kobani, YPG, said Kurdish fighters were able to detonate the car bombs before they reached their targets.

"Last night there were clashes all across Kobani ... this morning the clashes are still ongoing," she said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The Observatory said 70 Islamic State fighters had been killed in the past two days, according to sources at the hospital in the nearby town of Tel Abyab, where Islamic State bodies are taken. Reuters cannot independently confirm the reports due to security restrictions.

The Observatory said some Syrian Arab fighters from the Revolutionaries of Raqqa Brigade, who are fighting alongside Kurdish fighters, had executed two Islamic State captives.

"One was a child of around 15 years old. They shot them in the head," he said.

Islamic State have also used executions throughout their campaigns in Syria and Iraq, killing hundreds of enemy combatants and civilians who oppose their cause, according to Islamic State videos and statements.

Welat Omer, a doctor caring for the few remaining civilians in Kobani, told Reuters by telephone that he was looking after 15 patients, including children and the elderly.

"We need medicine, including antibiotics and milk for the children, and medicine for the elderly, who have heart conditions, diabetes and high blood pressure," Omer said.

Hundreds of thousands have fled Islamic State's advance. Turkey hosts about 1.5 million Syrian refugees, including almost 200,000 Syrian Kurds from Kobani.

Ankara has refused to rearm beleaguered Kurdish fighters, who complain they are at huge disadvantage in the face of Islamic State's weaponry, much of it seized from the Iraqi military when the militants took the city of Mosul in June.

Turkey views the YPG with suspicion for its long-standing links with the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), which has waged a 30-year armed campaign for self-rule in Turkey.

President Tayyip Erdogan was quoted in the Turkish media on Sunday as saying Ankara will never arm the YPG through its political wing, the PYD.

"There has been talk of arming the PYD to establish a front here against Islamic State. For us, the PYD is the same as the PKK, it's a terrorist organization," he was quoted as saying.

This stance has sparked outrage among Turkey's own Kurds, who make up about 20 percent of the population. Riots in several cities earlier this month killed left than 35 people dead.

In a call with Erdogan on Saturday night, Obama expressed appreciation for Turkey hosting over a million refugees, including thousands from Kobani.

"The two leaders pledged to continue to work closely together to strengthen cooperation against ISIL (Islamic State)," the White House said.

Obama's approach to Islamic State has drawn fire from his political opponents at home.

"We have dropped a bomb here and a missile there, but it has been a photo-op foreign policy," U.S. Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, a Republican and a potential presidential candidate in 2016, said on CNN's "State of the Union" show.

He criticized Obama for delays in aiding Kurdish fighters in desperate need of weapons and assistance.

HEALTHCARE NEWS: U.S. to issue new Ebola care guidelines, watch lists to shrink

By Erwin Seba

GALVESTON Texas (Reuters) - The United States will issue strict new guidelines telling American health workers to cover their skin and hair when dealing with Ebola patients, a top health official said on Sunday, while some of the dozens of people being watched for possible exposure to the virus are expected to be cleared.

In Texas, a lab worker who spent much of a Caribbean holiday cruise in isolation tested negative for the deadly virus and left the Carnival Magic liner with other passengers after it docked at Galveston early on Sunday morning.

The new guidelines for healthcare workers and the precautions taken for the cruise passenger reflected widespread anxiety over Ebola in the United States, including calls from some lawmakers for a travel ban on West Africa.

The worst outbreak on record of the virus has killed more than 4,500 people, mostly in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea.

Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf urged stronger international action to control the epidemic, saying on Sunday the disease was unleashing an economic catastrophe that will leave a "lost generation" of young West Africans.

Belgium announced on Sunday it would screen people arriving at its largest airport from West Africa for signs of fever. In Spain, the government said Teresa Romero, the nurse who contracted Ebola while caring for two infected priests, appeared to be free of the disease.

The new guidelines being developed by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention would increase protection for medical workers caring for Ebola patients. The new measures were prompted by anxiety after two nurses were infected with the virus, which is spread by contact with bodily fluids of sick people and so makes health workers especially vulnerable.

Health workers would be told to cover hair and skin completely, said Anthony Fauci, director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. The old guidelines, modeled after World Health Organization protocols, said workers should wear masks but "did have some exposure of the skin," he said.

In addition to the new protocols, the U.S. military plans to create an emergency response team of infectious disease doctors, nurses and trainers to help in the event of an Ebola crisis in the United States. The team would not be deployed in West Africa or elsewhere overseas.

END OF MONITORING

The first person to be diagnosed with the disease in the United States was Thomas Eric Duncan, a Liberian who fell ill while visiting Dallas last month. He died on Oct. 8, and two nurses who treated him were infected. This triggered a lengthy watch list of people who had had possible contact with them.

At midnight, 48 people who might have been in contact with Duncan will no longer require monitoring for signs of the virus, health officials say.

On Monday, more were expected to end 21 days of monitoring, the incubation period for the virus.

They would include Duncan's fiance, Louise Troh, her 13-year-old son and two other people who have been in mandatory quarantine at an undisclosed location in Dallas.

"We are so happy this is coming to an end, and we are so grateful that none of us has shown any sign of illness," Troh said in a statement on Sunday. She said she was still grieving for Duncan, who was the father of another son.

"We continue to mourn his loss and grieve the circumstances that led to his death, just at the time we thought we were facing a happy future together."

There are still 75 health workers in Dallas who have isolated themselves and are being monitored.

'SCARY'

The lab worker who was being monitored aboard the Carnival Magic worked at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, where Duncan was treated. The ship arrived at Galveston after a weeklong cruise that included being denied docking by Belize and Mexico because of the presence of the woman on board.

"It was scary. It was really very worrying," said passenger Regina Sargent of Dallas.

The lab worker, who has not been named, did not have contact with Duncan but was under observation as she might have come into contact with test samples from him.

She voluntarily isolated herself in her cabin and her blood sample was flown by helicopter for testing. "The lab testing done was negative," said Coast Guard Lieutenant Sam Danus.

Officials in Dallas, where nurses Nina Pham and Amber Vinson were infected, have urged residents to stay calm. "This is a critical weekend," Clay Jenkins, Dallas County's top official, said in an interview on ABC's "This Week." If there are no new patients, he said, Dallas is "going to be statistically less likely" to see new cases.

A series of Ebola scares has rattled the United States since Duncan was diagnosed. Americans' faith in the medical system and in its disease prevention ability was jolted by early missteps in his case.

In a public letter on Saturday night, Texas Health Resources Chief Executive Barclay Berdan acknowledged that Texas Health Presbyterian, where Duncan first went, made mistakes, including initially not diagnosing Ebola.

Berdan said aggressive actions since then ensured that the hospital was a safe place, and that outside experts would be consulted to determine how the two nurses became infected.

Vinson is being treated at Atlanta's Emory University Hospital, while Pham is being treated at the National Institutes of Health outside Washington.

Fauci said he had a long conversation with Pham on Saturday.

"She's in good spirits," Fauci told "Fox News Sunday." Asked whether she would recover, he said, "I'm feeling good about the fact that she's progressing very well."
